How we use AI?
We prioritize human thinking and ethics. AI is our collaborator for labour-intensive tasks, not our decision-maker.
Thinking First,
Labour Second
At Balyakal, we believe children deserve ethically sound, culturally relevant, and developmentally appropriate content.
Designed by our expert, Biranchi Poudyal, our AI-assisted workflow ensures humans stay in the driver's seat.
"We handle the thinking and planning, while AI takes care of the heavy lifting. This efficiency allows us to provide our services for free."
The Storytelling Workflow
Research-Based AI Workflow
Balyakal’s AI workflow is guided by Biranchi Poudyal’s ongoing doctoral research in generative AI, epistemic agency, and human-AI co-agency in education.
The central idea is simple: AI can support content creation, but it should not replace human judgment. At Balyakal, AI is used to assist with drafting, organizing, formatting, coding support, illustration concepts, and variation generation. However, humans remain responsible for meaning, cultural sensitivity, educational value, child safety, ethical review, and final approval.
This approach is based on a human-led model of AI use. AI is treated as an assistant in the creative and technical processes, not as the final author, teacher, or decision-maker. Every resource is reviewed by humans before publication.
The workflow follows three key principles:
- 1Human epistemic agencyPeople remain responsible for deciding what is meaningful, accurate, and educationally valuable.
- 2AI-assisted productionAI helps reduce repetitive labor so that the team can create more free learning resources for children and families.
- 3Child-centered reviewEvery story, worksheet, game, and illustration is checked for age-appropriateness, cultural respect, emotional safety, and educational purpose.
In short, Balyakal uses AI to augment human judgment, not to replace it.
