The Greedy Farmer
A long time ago, a farmer went to the market to sell pears. Since the pears were very sweet and aromatic, he hoped to get a good price for them. Just then, a yogi wearing a torn hat and ragged clothes arrived and asked him for a pear. The farmer tried to drive him away by scolding him, but the yogi did not budge from there. Becoming even angrier, the farmer began to use bad words against the yogi. Getting calm, the yogi said, "You have hundreds of pears all over your cart. I have asked for only one. What do you really lose by giving a single pear? Why get so angry?"
The people gathered around also said to the farmer, "Why don't you give him a small pear and send him away!" But the greedy farmer did not listen to anyone. a shopkeeper who had a shop nearby was watching all of this. After being annoyed by the noise, he bought a pear with his own money and gave it to the yogi.
The yogi thanked that shopkeeper and said, "A person like me who has renounced the world should not be greedy. I also have many good pears, I want to feed you all." Someone asked, "If you have pears, why don't you eat them yourself?" The yogi replied, "I needed a seed to plant."After that, the yogi ate that pear with great relish. After eating, he took the pear seed in his hand and dug a small hole in the ground with his spade. He put the seed into the hole and buried it with soil.
Then he asked the people around for water. Some people brought hot water from a nearby shop, and the yogi poured water onto that seed.
Hundreds of people in the market were watching there at the same time. As they watched, a small plant emerged from that seed. That plant immediately became a big tree. Branches and leaves grew on the tree. In a short moment, flowers bloomed on it and big, aromatic pears grew.
The yogi climbed the tree, picked the pears, and began to distribute them to all the people. As they watched, everyone finished eating the pears.
After that, the yogi felled that tree with his spade. After the tree fell, he carried it on his shoulder and walked away slowly.
While the yogi was showing this magic, that greedy farmer was also leaving his work and watching with wide eyes. He was so deceived that he even forgot his own trade. When the yogi left from there, the farmer returned toward his cart. But surprise! All the pears on his cart had already disappeared.Only then did he finally realize—those pears the yogi distributed to everyone were actually the pears from his own cart! He looked closely at the cart, a long stick (handle) of the cart was also missing. It was clearly visible that it had been freshly cut.
The farmer became furious with anger and ran quickly to catch the yogi. As he crossed the corner of the market, he saw his cart's handle thrown against the wall of the street.
He finally understood—the tree that the yogi had cut and carried on his shoulder was actually his cart's handle! But the yogi was nowhere to be seen. Seeing all this, all the people in the market looked at the farmer and burst out laughing.
